About SPARC

The Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration (SPARC), an initiative of the Ministry of Education, GoI, is designed to strengthen the research ecosystem in India's higher education institutions. By facilitating joint research projects and fostering faculty & student mobility between top-ranked Indian institutions and leading international universities, SPARC aims to enhance India's global research footprint. SPARC focuses on expanding the scope of international collaboration to address emerging global challenges such as climate change, public health and sustainable development. The program now prioritizes research that addresses societal needs, integrating cutting-edge technology with impactful solutions. By supporting interdisciplinary research and partnerships, SPARC helps Indian academicians engage with some of the world's most innovative research groups, allowing them to develop new perspectives and methodologies. The initiative has increasingly emphasized bilateral and multilateral partnerships with institutions from countries that are at the forefront of scientific and technological advancements, particularly in Europe, the United States and East Asia.

About the Symposium

The symposium will dive into the critical debate on whether Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) should be driven by voluntary initiatives or mandated by government policies. The global landscape of CSR regulation is diverse: some countries, like India, enforce mandatory CSR spending and reporting, while others, such as the United Kingdom, require only CSR reporting, leaving spending at the discretion of companies. Meanwhile, countries like the United States permit companies to adopt CSR practices entirely on a voluntary basis. This symposium will bring together experts, to explore the implications of both mandatory and voluntary approaches, drawing on case studies from around the world to highlight the benefits and challenges associated with each model. The goal of this session is to provide a deeper understanding of how different public policy frameworks influence CSR practices and offer practical insights for policymakers, corporate leaders and CSR practitioners as they navigate the complex intersection of regulation and social responsibility.

About JKSHIM

Justice K S Hegde Institute of Management (JKSHIM) established in 1998 is named after the great visionary and founder of the Nitte Group of Institutions, Late Justice KS Hegde, former Judge of the Supreme Court, and Speaker of the Lok Sabha. The Institute offers a two-year full-time MBA program recognized by the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Registration fee entitles the participants to symposium kit, materials and local hospitality. Companion registration is permitted at 75 USD for foreign delegates and 1000 INR for Indian delegates.

VENUE
The Symposium will be held at the campus of the Institute at Nitte. It is located near Mangalore in coastal Karnataka of Southern India and well connected by rail, road and air.

ACCOMMODATION
The Institute has limited accommodation in the campus guest house and hostels (sharing basis). The organizers have also secured rooms at various hotels in the city at special rates. A comprehensive list of hotels with tariffs ranging from US$ 50-300, will be made available in the conference website.
